Doody and McNamara Receive NBPD Retirement Plaques in 'Unprofessional Manner'
Retired North Branford Police Department deputy chief and sergeant express discontent with their retirement recognition at North Branford Town Council meeting.

The Feb. 7 North Branford Town Council meeting concluded with citizen statements, including two from retired members of the North Branford Police Department. Michael Doody and Kenneth McNamara maintained they were not treated fairly in their retirement.
Each read letters stating that they received plaques for their service to the department in a manila envelope delivered to their homes by a uniformed officer.
McNamara’s letter states “Mike Doody can confirm that for the last thirty-five years, we are the only officers who have retired and have not been acknowledged by the police commission at a public meeting.”
He went on to say "...I am appalled that they are allowed to freely conduct themselves in such an unprofessional manner."
Doody asked the Town Council, "Is this the quality of leadership that we want to continue to condone and support for North Branford? I think we all deserve better."
Northford resident Cliff Potter stood to say, “I wasn't going to say anything tonight, but it’s disgusting what I just heard.”
Chief Matthew Canelli had no comment on the subject.

Both of these officers deserved far better than this. The NBPD should be ashamed, once again, of themselves. I would like to personally say "THANK YOU" to both of them for the years of service to our community.

Here is the real truth from what I understand the Chief and the commissioners were not invited to McMamara's retirement party, it was by invitation only.

Canelli has said he will have Doody run out of this town in 6 months....
What is wrong with this town that they still have this man in office?
He does exactly what he wants and has the commision in his back pocket.
East Haven police were investigated by the Feds, why can't the NB police Chief be also???

All I can say is these are the people that we hope "protect and serve us", we are in trouble. They can do what they want, and they have a chief to back them up. So unfair, and scary quite honestly.

Both of these officers did a great job for North Branford. It is a shame they were not acknowledged properly. So there was a retirement party and people weren't invited, they probably wouldn't of went anyway. Any person who serves the public for as many years as they have definitely should be acknowledged properly and with the respect that they earned.

I retired from the North Branford Polide In 1988. NO letter, no plaque, no retirement badge. Even though Cannelli told the press the badge was being delivered, it never arrived. After I commented about the way "Max" was properly retired, I recieved a dog biscuit in the mail, anonamously. Where were you then Mike?
