Mary Caruso and her daughters Sam and Alex Bode of North Branford, in conjunction with the North Branford Congregational Church, put on their annual fundraiser for the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance on Sept. 11.

The fundraiser consisted of a walk down historic North Street followed by a picnic on the lawn of the church. The picnic was a contribution of Outback Steakhouse of Orange. Numerous individuals and organizations provide prizes for a raffle that followed.

Entertainment was provided by the bluegrass band Redstone Ridge and the kids were mesmerized by juggler (and comedian) Jason Pipitone.

Both of Caruso’s daughters were diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia around the age of eight (click here for their story). The disease affects fine motor skill,  speech, energy production and heart function, and both now require wheelchairs for mobility.

There was an excellent turnout for the occasion and everyone appeared to enjoy the event while contributing to an excellent cause.
