North Branford Fire Department 2011 Statistics

The Town of experienced a 12 percent increase in call for service during 2011 while continuing to provide the highest quality of emergency and non-emergency life safety services to the citizens and visitors in our community.

Through the department’s commitment to continuous improvement, staff development and implementing new and innovative programs to create greater economic efficiencies and improve emergency service effectiveness to North Branford residents. 

In compliance with National Fire Protection Standards (NFPA) 1720, Standards for the Organization and Deployment of Fire Suppression Operations, Emergency Medical Operations and Special Operations to the Public by Volunteer Fire Departments, the North Branford Fire Department exceeds the national consensus standard (on scene within 10 minutes, 80 percent of the time with 10 members) by responding to incidents within that period 83 percent of the time.

During 2011, the dollar loss related to fire damaged property was $436,000, while property saved was in excess of $46 million. Throughout 2011, fire department personnel answered:

• 1,955 calls
• 53 Fire Incidents
• 1,262 requests for EMS
• 161 Hazardous Conditions
• 212 Service Calls
• 148 False Alarms
• 51 alarms for activated carbon monoxide detectors
• 119 motor vehicle accidents with injuries
• 178 fire/EMS mutual aid incidents, providing or receiving mutual aid for/from East Haven, Branford, Guilford, North Haven, Durham and the City of New Haven
