In this week's Readers' Choice contest we want you to tell us who has the tastiest, juiciest, most delicious burgers in town -- and what makes them so darn good?
Updated: May 16, 12:45 p.m. After two days of voting, Doody's has jumped out to a big lead in this week's Readers' Choice: where is the best burger in North Branford? Doody's took off with a big lead and now holds 78 percent of the votes. Do you agree? What is it about a burger at Doody's that makes it so good? Original story: May 14, 5:30 a.m. In its purest form it's just a beef patty on a bun. But today's burgers are much more complex, with toppings that range from the classic lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard to items that include everything from bacon, mushrooms, jalepenos and avacado to a fried egg or chili. You could even get a burger made from turkey meat or bison, or a veggie one, too. When it comes down to it, you …

Connecticut’s minimum wage could rise a quarter a year for the next two years to $8.75. A new study says that minimum wage increases do little to effectively help poor people.
The Connecticut House of Representatives approved raising the minimum wage from $8.25 to $8.75 in the next two years. The vote passed by an 88-62 margin and the bill’s fate is now up to the Senate. According to the Hartford Courant, the proposal was pushed by House Speaker – and U.S. Congress candidate - Chris Donovan. He reportedly backed a more aggressive bill, which would have raised minimum wage to $9.75 in two years and then tied future increases to inflation. Economists and politicians have never reached a consensus on the merits of raising the minimum wage and the potential effects on employment numbers. A new study from the University of Georgia states that raising the minimum wage doesn’t help poor people. From the study’s …

Plenty of people have a new 'do thanks to Couture Hair Studio's cut-a-thon over the weekend.
On April 22, Couture Hair Studio hosted a Cut-a-Thon to benefit Matt's Mission, raising $690. Matt's Mission was founded in honor of Matthew Picciuto, who died on May 23, 2009, and had written in his yearbook that he wanted to make a difference. His mom, Lynn Riordan, took on that goal and has given back to the community in countless ways since founding Matt's Mission. Riordan was on hand to take these great photographs as people came in for haircuts, feather extensions and glitter tattoos. Debbie Lear, owner of Couture Hair Studio, organized the event. "I had cut her daughters' hair and had heard the whole story about Matt and Matt's Mission and thought it would be nice to give back," said Lear. "She's doing such a great job and I just …

Durand has also been involved in caring for children for much of her life, working as a full time nanny as well as in a day care center, including working with children with special needs. She also had often assisted in looking after some of Harrington's own grandchildren. Affordable, Quality Care "As I …
