3 Questions for Fire Chief William Seward: July 2013

North Branford's fire chief, William Seward, talks about certifications, impacts of construction and more.

North Branford Patch: What's new with the North Branford Fire Department?
Fire Chief William Seward: Five members of the North Branford Fire Department are enrolled in a State of CT Firefighter 1 certification program being held in North Haven. These members are just a few of the more than 20 new members that have joined various Companies since October 2012. Upon completion of their extensive training, each will be qualified to fulfill the duties as a interior structural firefighter. Additionally, two members of Company 1 Explorers successfully graduated for the CT Fire Academy's "Introduction to the Fire Service" class at the state's Windsor Locks campus.
North Branford Patch: What's something residents need to know?
Fire Chief William Seward: On Monday, July 29, the road work on Route 80 in front of Company 1 was set to begin, according to date DOT officials. This results in relocating the town's only aerial apparatus, Tower 1, to Company 2 for approximately 5 weeks. Other apparatus is also forced to move since the front of the fire station will be torn up to make way for elevation changes on Foxon Road. More than 50 percent of all calls occur in Company 1's district.

North Branford Patch: What's your favorite way to beat the heat in the summer?
Fire Chief William Seward: The best way to beat the summer heat is to make sure you are well hydrated, wear clothing that reflects the sun and is light enough to minimize heat build up. I prefer to mix plenty of "Tang" in my water.
