3 Questions for Mayor Anthony Candelora: May 7, 2013

North Branford Mayor Anthony Candelora on the new town manager, town budget, Central Plaza and baseball.

North Branford Patch: What is new with the town?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: We have started a new chapter in North Branford – our new town manager Michael Paulhus has started and hit the ground running. We have many exciting projects happening with economic development and we have just completed the town's budget, which was a very difficult year due the State not finalizing its budget. I am very confident in Michael and his leadership skills and look forward to working with him.

North Branford Patch: What is something residents should know?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: The Town Council, for the first time, completed a budget and was informed that the state would not be funding up to $366,000 in local aid. I have appealed to our local and State Representatives and Senators  on the major impact this will have on our town. We held a special meeting April 30 to discuss ways to fill this shortfall. All of the department heads have done a wonderful job trying to help in this very bad economic time. I am confident in our Town Council, Town Manager, and Finance Director that we will find a way to keep our town fiscally sound.

On a positive note, we have been working on Central Plaza with the owner on improving the plaza and also have many economic development projects that are being talked about.

North Branford Patch: Are you a baseball fan?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: Yes I am a baseball fan – I have been a longtime Yankee fan. This looks to be a tough year! I am also rooting for our North Branford High School team, which my nephew Nicky is playing on. GO THUNDERBIRDS!
