3 Questions for North Branford's HazWaste Committee: July 2013

The North Branford Hazardous Waste and Recycling Committee talks about PaintCare, recycling at the Potato Fest and more.

North Branford Patch: What's new in your department?
Hazardous Waste and Recycling Committee (HWRC): Hearing the good news about PaintCare Inc., which is the non-profit organization established by the American Coatings Association to implement Paint Stewardship Programs and establish drop-off sites for leftover paint at retailers and other sites. The program started on July 1, 2013 with 35 new places to drop off leftover paint in Connecticut. It is expected by end of August to have at least 100 sites throughout our state.

PaintCare "Program Products" include interior and exterior architectural coatings sold in containers of 5 gallons or less. House paints and primers, stains, sealers, and clear coatings (e.g., varnish) are acceptable at designated drop-off sites. Not acceptable are aerosols (spray cans), solvents, and products intended for industrial or non-architectural use. Please visit www.paintcare.org or call 855-724-6809 for a detailed list of acceptable items, drop-off locations and much more information.

North Branford Patch: What's something residents should know?
HWRC: New at the Potato Fest this year: recycling stations. Please take advantage of the multiple recycling stations making their appearance at the Potato Fest this year (Aug 1-4). They will be located in various areas where they can be conveniently used. Thank you in advance for remembering to reduce, reuse, repurpose and RECYCLE.
