I just want to remind people that there are people who prey on senior citizens. Yesterday my mom was caught off guard by a scam.
She was watching my sister's kids when she walked in the door and her phone rang. The dog was barking and the kids were talking so when they told her that she was going to get a new Medicare card, she figured they had her information.
They went over her information–home address, phone number and routing number on her check. They asked for her checking account number and, not thinking, she gave it to them. They said she would be getting a new medicare card in the mail.
When I talked to her, she told me what happened. I said, "Why did you give them your account number? Never give your account number out over the phone."
She told my older sister and she convinced her to go to the bank and close the account. While she was in the bank, there was another person that had the same problem.
I just want people to know there are people who commit fraud all the time. Beware!!
