On April 29, the Gateway Community College Foundation will be hosting an afternoon tour of four gourmet kitchens in greater New Haven and an evening tapas reception as fundraisers for the programs it supports, including GCC’s culinary and hospitality programs.
The Kitchen Tour will feature a local personality accompanying participants on a coach bus that will take them to each site from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to a program book with information about each gourmet kitchen and delicious recipes from well-known area chefs, participants will also learn interesting facts about each kitchen and enjoy a beverage or tasting of local treats.
The Tapas Reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Delia, the Viking Center of New England in Wallingford. Guest speaker Claire Criscuolo, author and owner of Claire’s Corner Copia and Basta Trattoria in New Haven, will be introduced by Jane Stern, co-author of dozens of cookbooks.
Emmy-winning TV journalist Jocelyn Mimenta will emcee the event, which will include a silent auction and tapas prepared by six of Connecticut’s most well-respected chefs. The chefs participating this year are: Jean Pierre Vuillermet of Union League Café in New Haven; Patrick Hogan of Kelly’s Restaurant in New Haven; Prasad Chirnomula of Oaxaca and Thali and Thali Too in New Haven; Franco Camacho of Tacuba and Twill in New Haven; Manuel Romero of Ibiza in New Haven, and; Jason Carmon of Soul de Cuba in New Haven.
Tickets to the Kitchen Tour are $65. Tickets to the Tapas Reception are $90. Combination tour and reception tickets, which include a copy of Claire Criscuolo’s “Welcome to Claire’s” cookbook, are $145. Tickets can be purchased online at www.gatewayfdn.org or by contacting Susan Swirsky at 203-285-2617 or sswirsky@gwcc.commnet.edu.
