The North Branford Majors division #2 team was asked to think of a way to make a difference in our community during a practice on 10/08/2013.  The girls chose a very fitting cause, which was to support and bring awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness Month by making pink hair bows & ribbons ~ not only for themselves ~ but also for the other North Branford Majors Divison 1 team.  The girls wanted to show a sign of North Branford Unity.

On Saturday 10/12/2013, after a light morning practice at Northford Park, the team gathered under the Northford Park Pavillion and made the bows and hair ribbons together.  They also made each other pink & white “Looms bracelets”.  The girls worked for over 1 ½ hours to complete the tasks before our game that evening against North Branford #1.

When we arrived at the field and warmed up before the game, the girls were so excited about the ribbons & bows they created for themselves and our other Town team.  After NB#1 warmed up in the field, it was our turn to take to the field.   The coaching staff asked the girls to line up on the first base line of Totoket Park with a Bow in their hands for a team member of NB#1.  Coach/Manager Bill Galdenzi sent his players out to meet our players at the first base line so they could receive their Pink hair Bows & Ribbons to wear at the game that evening, as well as throughout the month, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The girls on our team range in age from 7 – 13, and it was awesome to witness the camaraderie among the team and to be part of their enthusiasm and excitement while doing this project.  As coaches and parents, we were very proud of our girls  for demonstrating kindness, thoughtfulness, and sportsmanship!

A Special Thanks goes out to the Parents of NB#2.  They supplied ALL the materials for the girls to work on to make such beautiful bows & ribbons for BOTH Teams.  These materials are not inexpensive.  The Team Mom’s also had a few snacks on hand for the girls to eat while working on the projects.  Coach Dave Anderson also was kind enough to supply some ice cream for the girls as they finished the projects and cleaned up the area.

GO PINK POWER!
