Currie and DelGaudio Running to Raise Awareness for Organ Donation

Kevin Currie will run in the ING Hartford Half-Marathon on Oct. 13 with Jeff DelGaudio participating in the 5K, just 11 weeks after donating part of his liver to their friend, Joe Sansone.

For two North Branford residents, the ING Hartford Marathon and Half-Marathon to support Donate Life Connecticut is about much more than athletic accomplishment. Just 10 weeks ago, Jeff DelGaudio donated part of his liver to fellow North Branford resident Joe Sansone. Kevin Currie, a friend of both, is running the half-marathon with DelGaudio running the 5K – just 11 weeks after his surgery.

“I am running this race in tribute to Jeff’s selflessness and generosity and to give thanks for Joe’s recovery and new life,” announced Currie on his donation page. “They are inspirational people.”

DelGaudio is not collecting pledges for his race, however, he is looking to raise awareness for organ donation, noting that “It is easy to register through the Donate For Life website and takes less than 5 minutes.”

Currie agreed on the importance of raising awareness for organ donation, posting that “We all have the ability to give the gift of life without ever needing to go through what Jeff did. By registering to be an organ donor, you can give someone that new chance at life.”
