Entrance to Valley Road at Route 139 Closed July 9 to 12

As part of the ongoing project to straighten the curve on Route 139, the entrance to Valley Road at the Route 139 intersection will be closed from Tuesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 11.

Valley Road will still be accessible from Route 22 (Notch Hill Road) during the construction. Traffic on Route 139 will also be affected, according to Town Engineer Kurt Weiss.

"There will be impacts to traffic on Route 139 during the 72-hour road closure due to delivery and placement of fill materials, paving, etc.," he said.

The Connecticut DOT reports that approximately five feet of fill will be placed to reduce the include at the approach to Route 139 on Valley Road. The current Y-shaped intersection island will be narrowed for only one entrance onto Valley Road from Route 139 to "improve safety through this intersection."

The work is being performed Complete Construction, which was awarded the job at a cost of $1,474,433.46 on April 12, 2013, according to the DOT, and the project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 28, 2013.
