Local Family Lights the Holiday Tree on the New Haven Green

The McDermott family of Northford brought some special little friends on stage to help light the New Haven holiday tree, which was cut from their yard.

Last night's was extra special for several people from the area. The McDermott family of Northford had history with the tree–it was cut down from the front of their home in Northford.

By , the McDermott's earned a spot on center stage with a big job–illuminating the giant Norway spruce's 30,000-plus lights. 

The McDermott's–Marie, Steve, Mike and Jennifer–were more than happy to share the magic of the holidays with some special friends: Maddy Kaczmarek, Faith Altieri and Marley Krebs.

The trio of little ladies, decked out in holiday attire, took the stage with the McDermott's, newscasters from Channel 8 and Mayor John DeStefano. The crowd enjoyed a sing-along of "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and then counted down.

The button was pushed and all eyes were on the tree. It came to life to the cheers of the crowd, glowing in the chilly night. See the magic for yourself by checking out WTNH's News 8 video
