North Branford Patch, along with the North Branford Recreation Department and some background music by Big Shot, crowned the Royal Patch Court on the final day of the North Branford
The , Fran Meroli and Tracy Fair, handed over their spuds, but not before Patch crowned the Prince and the Princess of the Potato Fest.
Willy Taylor and Karen Ablondi, a husband-and-wife duo, sweated it out last weekend as they parked cars in the lots and were honored with Prince and Princess Potato Heads and crowns for their efforts in making the fest a success.
Then it was time to announce the king and queen.
First, Fair passed on her title to Jackie Folz, another hard-working volunteer, who also was sure to thank the countless other volunteers for making the festival possible.
Merola, the director of , then passed his potato on to Kyle Mezerewski, who received a slew of nominations for his dedication to Kids Camp, along with mentoring and coaching in town.
Jared Jamieson summed up several nominations by saying Mezerewski was "an amazing counselor at Kids Camp, the best one I have ever met. He was a very inspiring coach and very fun."
After the court was crowned and the past and present North Branford royalty posed for some photo ops, festival goers were treated to Big Shot, the Ultimate Billy Joel Experience, as they enjoyed fried dough, doughnuts, ice cream and, of course, corn and potatoes.
