New Weekend New Haven-New London Train Service Now Available

Shore Line East, which used to only run from New Haven to New London on weekdays, now runs that route on weekends and on holidays as well. There is a stop in Branford.

A new weekend train service began Saturday that takes passengers from New Haven to New London and Old Saybrook.

Shore Line East, which is run by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, is now offering 14 weekend and holiday trains from New London to New Haven and five from New Haven to Old Saybrook, according to Shore Line East's website. A one-way ticket from New Haven to New London is $9, and a one-way ticket from New Haven to Old Saybrook is $6.25, according to the website.

Before, there was only train service between New Haven and Old Saybrook and New Haven and New London by Shore Line East on weekdays. In a press release, Gov. Dannel Malloy praised the decision.

"This is great news for Connecticut,” Malloy said in the press release. “New train service will make it easier and more convenient to get to the coast and ease road congestion during peak season. Visitors come from all over to enjoy Long Island Sound and the great venues near the shoreline. I join Connecticut residents in welcoming summer to the state.”

There are also stops in Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton and Westbook, according to Shore Line East's website. There are discounts for seniors and monthly and ten-trip packages are available.
