Pepe's White Clam Pie From New Haven Named America's Best Pizza

Recently, the food website The Daily Meal listed its favorite 101 pizzas in America, and a New Haven pie was number one on the list.

The Daily Meal named Frank Pepe's Pizzeria's white clam pizza as the best pizza in America. The white clam pizza is topped with clams, oregano and an "intense dose of garlic," according to The Daily Meal. Frank Pep's Pizzeria opened in New Haven in 1925 and has since opened seven other locations.

Additionally, four other Connecticut restaurants were honored for serving among the best 101 pizzas in America. Specifically, Alforno of Old Saybrook's Margherita pizza was named the 68th-best pizza in the USA, Colony Grill of Stamford's sausage pie was named 27th, Modern Apizza of New Haven's Italian Bomb was ranked as the 11th-best pizza in America and Sally's Apizza of New Haven's Tomato Pie was named 7th.
