Who Needs Help, and Who is Willing to Help?

Do you want to volunteer to help with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts? Do you need help cleaning up or know someone who does? Connect with each other here.

Here at Patch, an integral part of our mission is to connect local volunteers with local volunteer opportunities. In fact, each editor receives five paid days a year to volunteer in their community.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there's plenty of folks who need help out there ... perhaps an elderly neighbor needs help cleaning up his yard, or a local shelter needs staffers, or an environmental group needs extra pairs of hands to remove debris and seaweed from the ravaged beaches.

So we'd like to provide this space for you, our central Connecticut shoreline readers, to give a shout out in the comments if you're looking for a way to help or you know someone or some group that needs help cleaning up after Sandy. Groups who are doing clean-up or outreach, let people know. If you want to volunteer, tell us about any special skills or equipment you have (got a chainsaw?).

One reminder: Don't put sensitive information such as addresses and phone numbers in the comments unless you're comfortable with it being public.

This article is cross-published to Patch sites in New Haven and Middlesex Counties that include the towns of Clinton, Madison, Guilford, Branford, East Haven, North Haven and North Branford.

As for organized cleanup, or anything else for that matter. Get away from the Computer screen, open the door and find out who could use a hand.

We just got power last night, God Bless those hard working lineman. They worked endlessly. We delivered food to the food pantry, the one way all can say thank you to the lineman. I am now checking winter clothing to bring, this to honor the Companys that drove endless hours to get here and help. Remember if you see a crew working, bring them some cookies or hot coffee , or hot chocolate, it will be truly appreciated.

How awesome it is to read the blogs and see the town come together united to help. People have to learn lets not wait for a storm to be kind to each other.

I have a sofa bed to donate to a family in need. Free, just need to pick it up. Just post here to connect with me to get it.
