Field of Flags

Zion Episcopal Church will honor those service members who have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with the "Field of Flags" display. The Field of Flags honors the fallen with a flag for each service member killed.

In Connecticut, it was first dedicated in October 2005 at the Somers Congregational Church. Despite a fire earlier this year that seriously damaged their church, a ministry team continues to assist other host sites with flag placement and a board with the names of those who have died. The display has traveled widely from its start in Somers.

The public is invited to a dedication ceremony in Zion Park next to the church on April 14, 2012 at 3 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall.  Organizers have invited veterans, community leaders, elected officials, clergy and Scouts.  The North Branford High School Band will also perform.  The display will remain until April 30.  Additional information about the Field of Flags is available at http://www.somerscongregational.org/index.php/more-info/field-of-flags/.
