On Tap Today: Town Council Meeting, Speed Dating In Branford, Toddler Time, Dinosaur Bones

Here's what you need to know for today, Tuesday, March 1.

1. Toddler Time at the Edward Smith Library begins at 10 a.m. Bring your child (18 months or older) and partake in songs and stories. The library is located at 3 Old Post Road on the Northford side of town.

2. Explore the wonders of our planet and existence at the Yale Peabody Museum. The museum (170 Whitney Ave.) has more than 11 million specimens and objects in its collection. Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children under 19. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. The Town Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. On the agenda is a preliminary budget submission for FY 2011-2012. The council plans to set a public hearing date for the budget, which is tentatively scheduled for April 5. The council meets at Town Hall.

4. If town meetings aren't your thing, and you're between the ages of 30 and 49, skip over to Branford for speed dating at Chuck's Margarita Grill (377 E. Main St.). The event is sponsored by Are You My Person? and runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Register online. Currently the event is full for women, so sign up boys! Cost: $40 (includes food).

5. To liven up your dull midweek evening, the Chowder Pot hosts four hours of karaoke every Tuesday night, from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The restaurant is located just over the border at 560 E. Main St. And if you're too shy to sing, at least come for the free raffle.
