On Tonight: America's Got Talent, The Voice and Raising Hope

Here are some suggestions for Tuesday night TV.

Tuesday, May 31

America’s Got Talent, 8 p.m., NBC

There should be a rule against solo singers. Like we don’t have enough of them flying at us in reality competitions, this show not only has to have them, but the judges have mad love for them, and the finals end up as singer against singer. And then what happens? NOTHING. Name one AGT singer winner who has done ANYTHING. You can’t. But you can name Terry Fator, my beloved ventriloquist, who won the second year and now has a wildly successful Vegas act and he is richer than Wayne Newton. OK, maybe I made that last part up.

The Voice, 10 p.m., NBC

And in what seems like really bad planning on NBC’s part, we sit through two hours of one talent competition and then have another hour of another one to go through? Really? Anyone else believe a nice mix of greens makes a better salad than all iceberg?

Raising Hope, 9 p.m., Fox

It’s the germ episode. Hands down the funniest sitcom episode of the 2010-'11 season. Don’t believe me? Watch.
