Letter to the Editor: Don't Forget to Shop Local in North Branford

The Economic Development Commission urges North Branford and Northford residents to remember local shops when it comes to holiday shopping and throughout the year.

Dear Editor:

As we go about shopping and purchasing food and gifts for the upcoming holidays, please do not forget to Shop Local here in North Branford. It is important that as residents of town, that we include on our “To Do” lists, stopping by our homegrown stores, farms, and restaurants to purchase gifts, have a break from shopping by eating at our restaurants (and buy a gift certificate, too!), pick the perfect tree and purchase local food products to be served on our holiday table.

It is these local business owners who keep our community thriving and alive, and support our causes, such as sports leagues, food banks, senior programs, libraries, and community events.  Without their support of local programs, they would not occur.

So it is now time for us to stand up and support our local businesses. National statistics show that 40 percent of businesses make their yearly income during the holiday season. Instead of sitting at home and ordering your gifts from the computer, go out to the businesses in North Branford and Northford and buy from them. And as you are purchasing a great gift or food item, take the time to THANK them for being such a strong part of our community.
