Meet Emily Magazzi, Co-Owner of Green Earth Agriculture

Growing practices around town are getting greener and Emily Magazzi is helping make it happen.

The more we know about how our activities affect the earth as we know it, the more we try to alter our behavior and live greener lives. Whether it’s driving electric cars and installing solar panels or using energy efficient light bulbs and ditching the aerosol cans, many of us want to reduce our carbon footprint.

Beyond the home, manufacturers and growers are doing their part to reduce any negative impacts on the planet. Farmers and and gardeners have the option to use organic and eco-friendly products to enhance the growth of their plants. That’s where Emily Magazzi comes in with her Green Earth Agriculture products.

North Branford Patch: What is ?

Emily Magazzi: We’re an LLC that distributes agriculture and turf products. Our main product line is called Quantum Growth, which is a pro-biotic for plants that helps them grown better. Turf will be greener for longer and it allows people to use fertilizer without chemical input. A lot of people like that it’s all natural.

Magazzi: We got into it because Joe, my husband and business partner, went to college with his friend Jeff, who started the company with his father-in-law. He and Jeff started the business a few years ago and Joe and I started distributing about three years ago.

North Branford Patch: Have you seen a shift in the amount of people moving from chemical fertilizers to natural products?

Magazzi: Even in the three years we’ve been in business, I’ve seen a shift. Some people were familiar with using biological products in growing, but a lot of people looked at us like we were selling snake oil. Now people seem aware of it, they seem curious about it and want to try it. We’re not getting that look anymore. It was tough, though, because people are used to having a different product for each plant so it sounds unimaginable to say that we have one product for all things with roots and photosynthesis. It’s exciting to see that shift in thinking.

North Branford Patch: What’s the production process like?

Magazzi: Our products are made in Florida and it’s basically bacteria grown in a bottle so there’s no mining, it’s not harmful, there’s no machines drilling the earth. The ecosystem is untouched and it’s domestic.

North Branford Patch: What else should potential customers know about the product?

Magazzi: You can spray our product around kids. With other lawn care products, I have to worry about whether or not my kids can play out there for a few days. It’s completely non-toxic, it’s safe for kids and pets and people, and it’s so easy to use. My two-year-old takes care of our orchids when they need water. He’ll tell me they look like they need water, there’s 10 to 12 of them, it’s so cute and it’s that safe and easy.

North Branford Patch: Who in the area has started using Quantum Growth?

Magazzi: There are several local trials going on, some of which are Nardella's Turf Care in Branford, Dudley Farm Community Garden in Guilford, Wellstone Farm in Higganum, and the .
