This year is also the national Extension Centennial. In 2014, UConn celebrates the Smith-Lever Act, which established the Cooperative Extension Service, a unique educational partnership between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the nation’s land-grant universities that extends research-based knowledge through a state-by-state network of extension educators. For 100 years, the Smith-Lever Act has stimulated innovative research and vital educational programs for youth and adults through progressive information delivery systems that improve lives and shape a nation. Join us as we celebrate 100 years of extending knowledge and changing lives.

The mission of the UConn Extension is to extend knowledge and research information to the citizens of Connecticut for the purpose of identifying and addressing agricultural, environmental, food and fiber, family living, and community issues. It provides a link between knowledge and its useful application between the results of university-level research and the needs of Connecticut citizens. The University of Connecticut is an equal opportunity employer and program provider.

The New Haven County Extension Council, Inc. is one of eight regional councils throughout Connecticut that serves as partners to the UConn Extension Centers. Each Council’s purpose is to provide a link between the local community and Extension.
