My Best Friend's Wedding

Writing is easy. Writing a speech about you & your best friend to read in front of a hundred people? Maybe not so easy...

Just 3 short weeks from this coming Saturday is a highly anticipated day for me; but more importantly, for my best friend: her wedding day.

Obviously she has been looking forward to this day for a long time - about  a year and a half now; but it really does feel like just yesterday that we went dress shopping for her. It was last October! I can't even believe it.

Even more daunting is the fact that I am one of her maids of honor, and I am going to have to give a speech at the wedding. Ah! One would think this wouldn't be an issue for me considering I love to write (clearly). Yet, this is such a different thing to have to prepare...a speech about all the memories (good, bad and downright hysterical) my best friend and I have had since meeting on a curb outside our freshman dorm that autumn day in 2004.

Eight short years have passed since that day, and miraculously, I can remember so many moments we shared.

From cautiously eyeing each other up while our parents each helped us unload the vehicles, to warming up to each other through our love of Britney Spears' music. From that very first night we formed a bond with a group of girls, to the first night I thought I would have to take her to the ER when the tequila shots decided to bite back.

From the lazy days of watching movies in our beds to the "wild" nights of her and I leaving the popular college bar at midnight to go home and eat Wheat Thins in bed. From the day we graduated and walked across that stage, to the many days she called me and told me she quit yet another job that she hated. Finally, from the day she text messaged me a photo of her hand with a beautiful sparkler on it nearly a year and a half ago, to today...where I sit and try to compose my thoughts to deliver the best speech ever heard in 3 weeks time.

I guess we don't realize how many memories time can give us.  It definitely doesn't seem like it's been 8 whole years since I found my best friend. I can only hope time gives us a lot more than another 8 years to make even more ridiculous and amazing memories together.  Now, let's just pray that I don't hear crickets upon delivery of this thing...(fingers crossed).
