Upcoming Activities for North Branford Libraries' Dream Big - READ! Program

More summer reading fun at the Smith Library.

Summer is the time for long lazy days filled with swimming, biking, and play dates with friends. But when the weather gets too hot to be outdoors, the adventure doesn’t have to stop. Dream Big – Read is a great way to beat the heat! Come into the cool library to attend one of our many programs and choose some fun books to read.

Ongoing events at the Smith Library:

Cake Decorating with Miss Lindsey: Mondays at 6:00 pm, July 9th – July 30th.  Ages 12 and up. Sign up for our 4 week cake decorating class that will teach you how to decorate like the pros. Unfrosted cupcakes provided each week to practice new techniques on. Registration required - space limited.

Lego Club Cool Creations: Tuesdays at 3:30 pm, July 10th – August 7th.  All ages welcome.  Bring your Legos and create a one of a kind Lego creation to add to our very own Lego book we are creating at the library.  Registration suggested but not required.

Baby & Me for infants, birth to 18 mos. with parent/caregiver.  Wednesdays at 10 am, July 11-August 8. A time to share stories, nursery rhymes, songs and ideas about parenting issues. Join us anytime! Registration suggested but not required.

Toddler Time – Tots and Tunes for children 18 mos. – 3 yrs with parent/caregiver. A playful, 30-minute session of music and movement with flannel board songs, parachute play and board books.
Fridays@ 10:00 am, July 13 – August 10. Registration suggested but not required.

Special Events at the Smith Library the week of July 9:

Faces of the Moon by CT author Bob Crelin:  Monday, July 9 at 4 p.m. Ages 5-9. Registration required. Want to lose weight fast? Travel to the moon where your weight on earth is 6 times your moon weight! 5.0 out of 5 stars on Amazon – “This is an astronomically fun, informative book on Moon phases you won't want to pass up!” 

Bubbles by the Whitney Water Center: Tuesday, July 10 at 11:00 am.  Grades K and up. Registration required. Learn how to make your own bubble solution and wands. We’ll watch bubbles of all sizes float and dazzle us with their rainbow colors in the bright summer sun!

Toddler Time Pajama Party: Tuesday, July 10 at 6:30 pm. Ages 18 mos-3yrs.  Join us for bedtime stories, songs and a star craft.  Milk and cookie refreshments served. Pajamas welcome! Bring your teddy or soft toy for the parachute.

American Girl Party and Shopping Spree:  Wednesday, July11th at 6:30 pm. Grades K and up.  Registration required.  American girls (that’s you) and their dolls are the stars today!  After reading a story we will make a blanket for our dolls to go star gazing.  **Please bring scissors for cutting cloth and money if you would like to shop for reasonably priced and unique doll clothes/accessories locally made by Barbara Elliott right here in Northford. Brownie s’more pizza and juice refreshments.

Family Field Trip to Meigs Point Nature Center @ Hammonasset State Park:  Thursday, July 12 at 10:00 am - $3 per person. All ages welcome! Join us for a day at the beach!!  Meet at Meig’s Point Nature Center to learn about our CT shoreline. Experience the Touch Tank for an up-close view of the smaller wonders of the sea, do some beachcombing and then explore the Rocky Shore to look for crabs. Pack a picnic lunch, sunscreen and sand castle supplies.  We’ll end our visit with a sand castle building extravaganza to see who can create the most monumental masterpiece!!

Movie Madness – Thursday, July 12 at 6:00 pm.  Happy Feet Two rated PG.
