Dream Big – Read!

Take a look at these pictures of summer reading fun at the library!

What fun we're having this summer reading and dreaming at the library!

Are you dreaming of being a marine biologist?  How surprised we were when Molly Johnson from Northford was our guide at Meigs Point Nature Center where we learned about our CT coastline.  Did you know that humming to a periwinkle will make it come out of its shell for a closer look?

Or maybe you’re dreaming of becoming a forensic scientist?  Detectives in the children's room used forceps and probes in their exploration of pelletized "victims".  They dissected owl pellets to discover what owls eat.  Most found several skulls and bones of rodents.  Did you know rodents have orange teeth?

Whether you’re dreaming of cake decorating with Miss Lindsey, being a pirate on the Sea Mist in the Thimble Islands, being a storyteller like Tom Lee, or maybe a musician like Dave Fry, we have something for everyone at the library.  Stop by to see what programs are yet to come!

We can also help you find a book that sparks your interest and suits your school summer reading requirements.  And don’t forget we have prizes available at both ends of town along with a Bounce U coupon for one free admission to any Open Bounce Session for all that reach their reading goals.  So, when these hot lazy summer days seem a bit too long and you’re feeling bored, check out the library.  It’s a great place to cool off and make your dreams come true!

Vincent: first..let me commend you for doing an excellent job! I have a couple thoughts I wouldRead More like to bounce off of you: 1. How about a proposal for property tax breaks for seniors? Pick an age..62 or 65. The majority of retirees are on fixed incomes, some of which are on the razors edge right now and are looking at having to move from the area even though they don't want to. Its a shame that people who have lived their whole lives here cannot afford to stay on for retirement. 2. The current property tax credit for veterans is $1000 and has been stuck there since the '60s if I'm not mistaken. It really doesn't amount to a hill of beans given current property values and needs a serious upgrade/higher value. As a combat veteran (Viet Nam) I would be really grateful if this could be improved.

Vinny - you obviously understand both the problem and the solution. As a general rule, all ourRead More elected officials are intelligent people, so I just don't understand why the Majority party doesn't seem to "get it." Please keep focusing on the problem AND the solution. At some point in time, perhaps other elected officials will finally understand the problem we are in, and realize that we really need to get serious about fixing it. Thanks for your service to the Connecticut's tax payers!
