Meatless Monday; Critter Capers!

Here is your weekly serving of weird, funny, and instantly forgettable headlines I have come across. This week's stories look at the antics our four legged friends get up to, oh and one angry bird!

If you have been reading my blogs, you know I am the proud owner of two dogs. They are both labradoodles but that’s where the similarity ends. Our oldest, Lucy is tiny but what she lacks in size she makes up for in smarts. Leo is our puppy; he is huge and let’s just say he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. So this week he has chewed the leg of a table, a long string off a rug, a pair of chopsticks and a check. And those are just the objects we know he ate because of the telltale evidence!

Clearly Leo is not alone with his obsession to eat strange objects, I found a story about a Labrador named Barney that brought back some interesting souvenirs from a walk on the beach near his home in England. Afterwards his owners noticed he was a bit sluggish, it wasn’t the exertion of his walk weighing him down; it was the 109 rocks he ate. They had also noticed his belly would rattle when someone ran their hand over it. There were too many to wait for them all to pass naturally so he had surgery.  I bet the owners were glad about that, imagine
the big argument over who got to scoop that poop!

Before you pass judgment on the owners, it can happen to anyone. A vet friend of mine was teaching techs how to perform x-rays using his dog as an example. Imagine his surprise when the x-ray showed his dog had eaten a handful of screws. I guess the next time something goes missing in my house I should not be so quick to assume my kids misplaced it….

I’m lucky that my dogs never seem to get mad at me, but my friend’s beagle gets an attitude with her once in a while and gets revenge by peeing in her shoes. Well I hope it’s her dog that’s the culprit but that’s another story. A guy in Florida must have really upset his pooch though because they were driving down the road and the dog (no name given so it must be a minor) kicked a gun and it shot the owner. Police are a little skeptical but did say that “It’s not being investigated as a criminal act as you don’t have to be licensed to carry a gun in Florida.” Fido can relax about no pending charges but he still could not be reached for comment.  The owner was treated and released from the local hospital and funnily enough he didn’t want to comment either. Maybe now he will buy the good kibble.

From angry dogs to an angry bird; a bald eagle in Palo Alto Zoo in California escaped last week. During her daily exercise she went on the lam, instead of returning to her trainer she headed north and finally took up roost in a
giant redwood tree. Thankfully she was wearing a radio transmitter so she was
tracked down and lured out of a tree with a couple of dead mice and a quail. She has a history of escaping; she escaped from her previous zoo 8 times. Do you think she is trying to tell the zookeepers something?

I have another story about snakes on a plane, but it's dinner time and my dogs are circling!
