The Dog Days of Summer

The signs of fall are all around us, it's time for me to lament the end of summer!

The kids are back in school, its dark when I get up in the morning and the temperature has been much cooler. Yes the dog days of summer seem to be over.

I love summer, it’s my favorite season. I love the feeling of the sun on my old achy bones, even if I have to spend 15 minutes slathering on copious amounts of sunscreen before I leave the house! My idea of a perfect day is lazing around on the beach or by the pool, a good book in one hand and cool drink in the other.

  1. Eating!

Yes, my favorite summer pastime is the great variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. I hit up the farm stand several times a week and stock up on local produce. My absolute favorites have to be the corn and heirloom tomatoes from . We also visit pick-your-own places so we can be sure the strawberries and peaches are the freshest!

And last but not least, ice cream. It would not be summer without visiting North Branford’s ice cream places. For us it’s a tie, we love the new ; the banana walnut chocolate chip is out of this world. The other contender has to be . If you have not tried their apple pie with frozen custard you have not lived!

Summer is almost done, I am holding out for one more heat wave so my flip flops and sandals can have a few more outings before they are stashed away in the back of the closet till next year. In the meantime all this talk of food has me hungry, time for one more ice cream!
