3 Questions for Senior Center Supervisor Judy Barron: Oct. 10

Judy Barron talks about new programs at the Senior Center, how to get help with your groceries and what she loves about North Branford.

North Branford Patch: What's new in your department? 
Judy Barron: We are offering self-defense classes to our members! Sign-up is required. Call us at 203-315-6017 with any questions. Here's the information:

Street-Savvy Seniors 
Who: Adults 55 & over
When: Thursday, November 1st / 10:45 a.m. to Noon
Where: North Branford Senior Center
Fee: $7.00 per person 
Instructor: Ed Ricciuti
Description: Learn introductory self-defense for seniors, including how to spot trouble before it starts, while improving mental acuity and physical health. Third-degree black belt in Combat Hapkido Ed Ricciuti, 74, tailors instructions to senior concerns and abilities, which he knows first hand. Ed is co-president of Green Hill Martial Arts in Killingworth, studies Kung Fu under Stephen Watson, as well as Jeet Kune Do, the art of Bruce Lee. He held three boxing championships at the University of Notre Dame, has trained professional and amateur boxers and wrote the book How to Box. Ed is a journalist with international experience and author of more than 80 books.

North Branford Patch: What's something residents need to know?
Judy Barron: We provide a grocery shopping service every week on Wednesdays. We alternate between our local Big Y and the Branford Stop & Shop. We have aides that ride along the buses on these days to offer assistance with your shopping and carrying your packages. Sign-up is required by 9 a.m. that morning.
