No School, No Power...What to Do?

We certainly weren't expecting to have the day off today, but there's plenty of things going on to keep the kids busy.

Hurricane Sandy has certainly put a kink in the final days of October and with the kids going into their third day off from school, some of you may be looking for things to do.

Unlike many surrounding towns, you can put those finishing touches on Halloween costumes and restock the candy that got eaten during the hurricane because trick-or-treating (or Trunk-or-Treating) is on.

Check out the Halloween books at the Smith or Atwater libraries. The children's librarians always have great things going on. Plus, there are plenty of outlets available in case you need to charge any of your devices.

Hit the park. North Farms Park and Northford Park have great playgrounds and plenty of space to run around. Just make sure to keep an eye out for debris and be safe.

Visit the animals at Rose Orchards. Don't forget quarters if your little ones want to feed them some snacks!

Bounce U will be open on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for open play and Halloween fun. Here's the info from their email, "Costumes are optional but please no masks. $11 per participant to bounce. We will have cosmic bounce on in our second bounce room. Receive a special treat bag when you leave. If you still are without power, we have free WiFi, plugs to recharge your electronics, and water if you bring empty containers to fill. Don't forget socks." Reserve your spot by calling 203-484-9200.

Bishop's Orchards will hold free pumpkin carving at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a donation to the Women and Family Life Center. You can take your pumpkin home or choose to have it displayed for a Bishop Spooktacular in front of the Little Red Barn for Halloween night.
