North Branford Ranked 11th in Connecticut Magazine's Town Ratings

A recent listing of the top communities to live in the state placed North Branford in the middle of small-sized communities.

Connecticut Magazine recently released its latest “Rating the Towns” list of the top places to live in Connecticut with North Branford standing at No. 11 in the 10,000 to 15,000 population group (as of 2010 census). The magazine compared towns based on education, economy, cost of living, crime and leisure/culture (click here for descriptions of those categories).

North Branford placed 11th out of 20 communities among the smallest towns rated in the 2011 ratings. North Branford was second of the four New Haven County towns on the list including Orange (No. 6), Oxford (No. 12) and Derby (No. 16). 

Weston took top honors in the group, ranked No. 1 in education, crime and economy, ninth in leisure and 20th in cost of living. North Branford averaged middle of the road standings in four categories with cost of living at ninth, economy and leisure at 10th and crime at 11th. Education was rated 14th.

North Branford did move up in the rankings from its 13th-place rating in 2009, the year Old Saybrook took top honors. In 2009, North Branford was ranked No. 8 in the crime category, 11th in economy, 12th in leisure, 15th in cost of living and 16th in education.

According to these ratings, North Branford has improved on all fronts except crime, which has gone up in ratings. North Branford made the biggest jump in cost of living, improving six spots.
