North Branford Remains Below State and National Unemployment Rate Percentages

The latest figures show that North Branford's unemployment rate percentage is below both Connecticut and the country's average.

North Branford is below Connecticut's 9.2 percent unemployment rate and the country's 9.1 percent unemployment, according to July figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor. The town’s unemployment is now 7.8 percent, or 657 people, of the 8,432 in North Branford's work force.

Though the 7.8 percent is up slightly from June (7.5 percent, 627 people), May (7.5, 629) and April (7.6, 636), there are less people unemployed than the opening months of 2011.

January had the highest unemployment rate of 2011 for North Branford (8.9, 753) followed by February (8.7, 739) and March (8.3, 705).

In 2010, the unemployment rate in North Branford started at 8.6 percent but then hovered from 7.1 to 7.8 percent through the remainder of the year.

The town's Department of Social Service "will assist any individual, family, child or adult facing any crisis, challenge or life management issue. This office will provide education and referral to programs that may help an individual or a direct service by completing the application process with an individual. Programs may include WIC, Regional, Local, State or Federal."
