North Branford's Unemployment Rate Improves Slightly

The August unemployment figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor identifies 7.5 percent of North Branford’s work force as unemployed, a slight improvement from . Those figures are still better than both Connecticut and the nation's figures.

The rest of the nation saw a slight improvement in the unemployment figures as well. Connecticut dipped .1 percent to a 9.1 percent enmployment rate. The United States did the same with a 9.2 percent rate.

According to the Department of Labor statistics for August, North Branford has a work force of 8,346 of which 7,723 are employed. The 7.5 percent unemployment rate is the lowest of 2011–a rate that was also reached in May and June and only rose slightly to 7.8 percent in July. The 2011 unemployment rate for North Branford peaked at 8.9 percent (753 people) in January.
