Blessing of the Animals

Feast of St. Francis to be celebrated with Blessings onOctober 6th at Zion

Francis of Assisi was known for his great love for all God’s creatures. Zion Episcopal Church, 326 Notch Hill Rd (Rte. 22) North Branford will celebrate the Feast of Francis on October 6th in Zion Park, which is adjacent to the church. The annual Blessing of the Animals begins at 5:00 p.m. with interment of pet ashes immediately following.

All are welcome to bring their dogs and cats, snakes and birds, goats and guinea pigs, hamsters and horses to receive a blessing and a suitable treat for their species.

Interment of pet ashes began last year at Zion, and arose out of the need of persons who had nowhere to bury the remains of their beloved pets. For those moving, or living in apartments or condominiums, burying ashes may not have been desired or possible. The Zion community wishes to use the resources we have, this beautiful park, to offer to parishioners and area residents alike the comfort of a place to bring their pet’s cremated remains.

If you have any questions you may call the church office at 203-488-7395 or email the Vicar, the Rev. Lucy LaRocca at zionvicar@att.net.
