L.A.M.P. New Haven Presents Illuminate On9 Event

The 3rd Annual LAMP Light
Artists Making Places New England’s Premier Light Event will light up the night
on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. and will showcase international artists
working in film, video and performance in New Haven’s historic Ninth Square,
including Crown, Chapel, Orange and State Street. This also marks the beginning of New Haven’s month-long
annual City-Wide Open Studios, when artists across the city will open their
studios and temporary spaces. The night will begin with the annual Illuminate On9 featuring
a musical performance by Music Haven’s orchestra (10-13 year olds).

City-Wide Open Studios has expanded to a month long
celebration of art. This year the event will kick off October 4th with
the opening reception and will be followed by the Erector Square Weekend
October 12-13, the Passport Weekend October 19-20, and will finish up with the
Alternative Space Weekend happening October 26-27.  On9 will also be hosting ribbon cutting
ceremonies for three new businesses opening in the 9th District. The
grand openings of Meat & Co. (118 Crown Street), Inspired Turkey (86 Crown
Street) and Giampietro Gallery (91 Orange Street) take place Friday, October 4
from 6 to 8 p.m., during the latest “On9” festivities in the district. The
ribbon cuttings are hosted by Town Green Special Services District, the
coordinators of On9 in New Haven’s Historic Ninth Square.

“This year’s LAMP event has doubled in size and now
includes over 80 artists in 20 sites within a two-block radius, each hosting a
unique performance/ night and light driven event,” said Kelly Murphy, New
Haven’s Economic Development Administrator.

Renowned artists
such as Vicki DaSilva and Mark Mulchay will take part in this year’s event. The
event this year will commemorate the 375th birthday of the city and
capture the spirit and history of New Haven’s “Phantom Ship.” Artists at this
event will project illuminations, both large and small, using new and old
technology with a variety of projection devices. The event will also highlight
the work of Connecticut’s own Projects 2K. LAZ
Parking lots will offer $5 parking during this event for all visitors.
