Nearly 400 Dots Spotted in North Branford!

Many families in North Branford and Northford have spent the last two weeks seeing spots–or trying to, anyway, as they searched for a dozen dots hidden around town to celebrate International Dot Day.

Smith Children’s Librarian Debbie Verrillo and Totoket Valley Elementary School Librarian Carrie Seiden thanked everyone for their participations, saying “Our first town-wide celebration of International Dot Day was a HUGE success!

After the search, there were 398 Spot the Dot entries submitted. The winners, who were chosen at random from the entries, are nine-year-old Charliana Criscuolo, six-year-old Shane Salemme, eight-year-old Ryan Nuzzo and 10-year-old Ava Galdenzi. The winners received art supplies and a book, thanks to TVES and the North Branford libraries.

“We are delighted that so many residents took part in our first International Dot Day celebration and we are grateful to the area businesses and town offices that allowed us to display the 12 dots,” said Seiden. “We were part of a much larger world-wide celebration.”

According to The Dot's author and illustrator Peter Reynolds’ website, there were more than 600,000 Dot Day participants, coming not only from all 50 states, but spanning six continents.

Even though this year’s Dot Day celebration is just winding down, Verrillo and Seiden are already planning next year’s "Connect the Dots" challenge, which will require families to gather dots in order to solve a puzzle or mystery.

We are challenging ourselves to grow this annual event into something bigger and better each year!,” said Seiden. “Remember the message of The Dot: have the courage to be creative and make your mark both in the community and in the world. Your contributions
matter!”
