Patch's Poll: How Do You Keep Your Home Cool in This Heat Wave?

Do you use air conditioning? Fans? Both? Or do you just keep the windows open?

It is, yet again, another hot day in Connecticut.

Temperatures are expected to rise to the low-90’s on Wednesday, as the nation grapples with the continual string of heat waves throughout July.

It's important note, however, that thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

As we hit a third day in a row of high temperatures this week, we’d like to know: how are you keeping your homes cool? Do you run your air conditioners most of the day? Or do you just keep a bunch of fans going? Or how about just keeping the windows open and letting the good old natural air come in?

, this year, we celebrate the 110th birthday of the air conditioner. Imagine enduring this heat without such a convenient invention.

So, Patch readers, how do you prefer to keep the air cool in your homes? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

I set my a/c at 79-80* and close the blinds I have sun sails on the southern exposure to defuse the heat of the sun. I also have a bubble wrap insulation from Lowes attached to my attic rafters . I also have 2 solar fans moving the air around in the attic to keep the house and a/c unit in the attic cooler. I also have a 1200 cuft solar exhaust fan to help remove any heat build up in the atic, 4" of foam insulation on the floor of the attic. My walls are insulated with foam and I have a crawl space that also has my floors insulated. Double insulated low e glass windows The home is a 1924 home well insulated and trust me when the a/c comes on to cool the home it stays cooler at 79* I also installed energy efficient ceiling fans to keep the air inside moving. Folks I also did two strange things I insulated a hatch cover for my attic stairs and I installed a garage door sealer on both my outside doors to block out any air leaks. All because I live in a solar house and even in the summer I use very little electricity and pay no bills each month even with the a/c on
