Patch's Poll: Should Politicians Be Fined for Failing to Remove Their Signs?

The state is plastered with campaign ads. Should politicians be held responsible for their timely removal?

After what seemed like an interminable period of intense campaigning, it's all over.

The decisions have been made, and the public is ready to move on.

Few will miss the constant barrage of phone calls, television commercials and radio ads, which will be gone more or less right away.

But what about those signs that plaster town greens and public rights of way? Will we have to look at those until they disintegrate in the spring?

Should politicians be required to remove their signs within a certain time period? Is that strictly a townissue, or should the state get involved?

Take our poll and tell us more in the comments.

I disagree. 99.9% of all signs are on private property, put there by those owners. Why should the politician be held accountable for the actions of these people. What politicians should be fined for is their continued in-action in office to make the lives of those whom he/she represents.

I agree Richard...I will take my signs down...it's my responsibility since I put them up. Most of mine weren't even delivered by the campaign.....I got them thru our local RTC.

I like my "Dole for President" sign and I'm leaving it there. Don't anybody touch it.

Agree with Poulton and Beth. This is an absurd suggestion. Kind of thing that makes it hard for me to be a Democrat. It is a statistically defensible fact that there is a strong positive correlation between the winners and the longevity of their signs post election. A lesson here for politicians with empty claims to "plans" to respect the importance of good printing stock. No TV lies and distortions. Just good name-recognition signs without displaying the party affiliation.

Non issue question - virtually all the signs are gone within 24 hours - every time. .
