Then and Now: Park Theatre

Where was the Park Theatre located?

The photo above, from the 's Baxter album, was taken in 1917. As you can tell from the label, it's a photo of the Park Theatre. The address numbers have all been redone since 1917, but the street corner on which Park Theatre stood is still there, even if the building is not. My question to you: on what corner was Park Theatre, and what stands there now?

If you also know what types of productions the Park Theatre were used for, I'd love to hear it! That's what I'll be looking up this week.

Ha! Clearly this question was too easy for some of our readers. Good work, Cal! Bonus question: who owned the theater? Any idea what types of productions played there?

Reader Gina (who moved away from Branford in 1985) wrote me an e-mail, saying: "I believe the Park Theater was located at 240 Main Street, in Branford." I'm impressed that Gina had the right historical address -- the street addresses changed back in the 50s or 60s, due to street names being renamed (moving Branford down to five Main Streets from seven). Gina remembers the Park's old, pre-change over address. Points to her!

Exactly right, Pete. Hopefully I'll have a few details to put up next week about Branford Book and Card as well. It seems like an institution to me -- I have a hard time imagining anything being on that corner before!
