Vista Partners with Quinnipiac University to Provide Occupational Therapy Internships

In an ongoing effort to partner with community organizations, Vista is excited to collaborate with Quinnipiac University to provide internship opportunities for four Occupational Therapy (OT) students this Spring/Summer.  The interns, in addition to their OT supervisor, will work at Vista for a total of 12 weeks, beginning Tuesday, May 27th. Each intern will be assigned to one of the Entrance Program Teams and will be completing an individual project during their time here (curriculum development, implementing new strategies, etc.).

Vista will benefit from having a different perspective working with Entrance students. As Vista does not have an OT on staff, this perspective will be helpful in creatively working with students and developing strategies.  OT interns will also provide support to Vista’s Summer Experience, a two-week program that provides an introduction to life at Vista and the independence of adulthood in a supported and fun-filled learning environment.

This internship will be an important part of the Quinnipiac University interns’ OT studies as well. According to Quinnipiac’s Academic Fieldwork Coordinator Barbara Nadeau, “Level II fieldwork is an integral step in the integration of academic and professional practice and is designed to promote clinical reasoning and reflective practice, to transmit the values and beliefs that enable ethical practice, and to develop professionalism and competence as career responsibilities.”
