While my kids are too young to want a cell phone just yet, I know the day will come–sooner than I can imagine–that they'll be telling me they need one, that all of their friends have one. My stepdaughter just turned 10 and she's not quite there yet, but I've seen kids her age chatting away or texting.
In today's world, it seems that everyone is plugged in all the time and I know that I don't leave my house without my phone. I understand there will come a time that a phone will be useful if they're involved with after-school activities or practices, but with a phone comes responsibilities.
So how young is too young to have your own cell phone? Do you put restrictions on talking and texting? Do they have to pay for it or pitch in? How do you monitor usage?
