70-Year-Old Man Found Safe After Kayaking Mishap

When a man was reported missing on Monday, the North Haven Fire Department and DEEP stepped in to help the North Branford Police Department locate him.

On Aug. 13 around 8:30 p.m., the requested assistance in locating a man who was reported missing. A 70-year-old man was reported to have gone to North Haven around noon to kayak. He was reported to be an experienced kayaker.

Officers located his vehicle at the Quinnipiac Marsh boat launch. Because the man was believed to have been in the water for an unusual amount of time, and darkness was setting in, the and DEEP were contacted to assist in locating the subject.

A short time after the search began, the fire department, utilizing a boat, observed an empty kayak floating downstream in the Quinnipiac river near Sackett Point Road.

Soon after, the 70-year-old man was located in same area. Once ashore he appeared disoriented. He was evaluated and transported to the hospital for further treatment.
