A Busy Day for NBPD

The North Branford Police Department made three big arrests yesterday.

The had a busy day on May 11, making three big arrests.

The NBPD Detective Division has been investigating a sexual assault for the past 90 days and yesterday, 19-year-old [Name Removed] was arrested for fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. [Name Removed] was held on a $75,000 court-set bond and transported to court on May 11 for arraignment. To protect the identity of his victim, no further details are being released.

Mark A. Missino, a 43-year-old Waterford resident, was arrested by North Branford police detectives while in the custody of Judicial Marshals at GA 23 Superior Court in New Haven on other charges for his part in a residential burglary in Northford that occurred about one year ago. He remains in custody pending this and other cases against him. Missino was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree larceny and theft of a firearm.

At 11 p.m. on May 28, 2010, Missino allegedly pried a locked back door open and ransacked the homeowner’s personal belongings in an attempt to locate items he wished to steal. The homeowner returned during the break-in and Missino was said to fled on foot with $25,000 worth of personal items as well as a handgun which was later recovered during the course of the investigation.

The NBPD also made an arrest in connection with thefts of catalytic converters from service vans at , 8 Commerce Dr., North Branford, that occurred on April 11. Michael Pires, 25, of Middlefield, was arrested and charged after an investigation showed he attempted to sell used catalytic converters at a local scrap metal dealer. Pires was arraigned at GA 23 Superior Court on May 11 for second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy.

The original theft was interrupted when a patrolling North Branford police officer observed Pires’s vehicle acting suspiciously on the night of the thefts and other converters were recovered at that time, however, Pires allegedly eluded capture by fleeing the area.
