There has been an ongoing discussion over the years regarding the size of the police force at the North Branford Police Department with the president of the union addressing the need for more officers last March.

North Branford, with a reported population of 14,434 in 2011, had a police force of 27 for a 1.87 employee rating per 1,000 population. The state police have a 2.81 rating. 

Edited to add (8:45 a.m.): The figure of 27 includes four dispatchers and former Deputy Chief Mike Doody. Lieutenant David D'Ancicco said the department now has 22 police officers and has requested the addition of two to bring the total force to 24.
