Man Hospitalized After North Branford Mobile Home Explodes

There was a flash explosion in a mobile home at the Totoket Valley RV Park on Route 80 near the East Haven line around 2:30 this afternoon. One man was inside at the time of the explosion and is en route to the hospital.

Within minutes of the call, North Branford Fire Department personnel arrived and discovered an occupant who had sustained first- and second-degree burns of the head and upper body. He was conscious and alert and transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.

The visible fire was extinguished and the property utilities were secured.

An initial investigation revealed the possibility of a build-up of propane vapors in the one-story structure that ignited and caused significant structural damage to the mobile home unit, according to Fire Chief William Seward.

The North Branford Fire Marshal's office is investigating the incident.
