More Scrap Metal Theft Arrests

Thefts of scrap metal have been on the rise over the past few weeks, according to NBPD.

Niki Zachreson 29, 28 Flat Rock Rd., Branford, was arrested on warrant for first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree larceny, first-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.

He and were reported to have stolen radiators and two car batteries from a previous employer and then sold them to a scrap metal dealer. Upon investigation, he had allegedly sold many items to the scrap metal dealer over a long period of time, totaling more than $10,000.

Nico Desisto, 21, Walter Joseph Germe, 42, and Brenda Ortiz, 21–all of Main St. Apt. 206, Branford–were arrested for third-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny at 10:30 a.m. on July 5.

After North Branford police received a report of an unknown car in a property on Route 80, the trio was found on the property and had allegedly gathered a pile of scrap metal, totaling about $300.

Lieutenant David D'Ancicco said that scrap metal thefts have been on the rise over the past six weeks. Several thefts have also been reported in Branford including those of  and a (pictured).
