Late this afternoon, the North Branford Police Commission voted to fire Mauro Piroli, a police officer who has worked for the North Branford Police Department for the last five years.
The Police Commission held a five-hour executive session in regard to Piroli's disciplinary hearing last Friday, Nov. 30, and after about an hour executive session today, Dec. 5, the Commission announced its decision to terminate Piroli's contract.
The details leading up to the disciplinary hearing have not yet been released.
Piroli was the NBPD’s canine officer, going through numerous hours of training with Chase, a German shepherd. Piroli and Chase began duty with the NBPD in late summer of 2011 and soon after his training, Chase assisted in several drug arrests.
