Police Release Details of Murder-Suicide in North Branford

A North Branford mother is dead after allegedly being shot by her husband, who then killed himself, in a triple shooting on Brook Lane on June 9.

Three days after a , state police released information on what they are calling a murder-suicide that left Meridith (Fletcher) Negron, 39, and her husband, Exsell Negron, 42, dead and after sustaining a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to a , the medical examiner ruled that the death of Meridith Negron was a homicide as a result of gunshot wounds. The death of Exsell Negron is ruled a suicide as a result of gunshot wounds.

According to the State of Connecticut's Judicial Branch website, Negron had several pending charges with upcoming court dates on June 28 and July 10:

  • On April 8, the East Haven Police Department charged Negron with first-degree assault (extreme indifference to human life) stemming from an incident on May 12, 1996. He plead guilty and had an upcoming court date of July 10.
  • In addition to the charge above, he was also charged with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest (misdemeanor) and felony charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, two counts of possession of narcotics and sale of certain illegal drugs for his actions on April 8. The courts were awaiting his plea on June 28.
  • Other charges included in the July 10 court date stemmed from a Nov. 20, 2011 incident when East Haven police charged Negron with possession of narcotics, sale of hallucinogen/narcotics, operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and failure to display lights. Negron plead not guilty to all charges.
