NB Police Searching for Gas Station Robbery Suspect

The North Branford Police Department is asking anyone with information on last night's suspected armed robbery of the gas station on Foxon Road near the Sportsplex; suspect is average height, clean-shaven, white male, driving an older Honda Civic.

At 7:43 p.m. on Sept. 21, the North Branford Police Department 911 center received a call from an independent gas station at 208 Foxon Road (near the Connecticut Sportsplex) reporting a robbery. Responding officers found an injured employee in the parking area.

Employees told the police that a white male subject described as average height and clean-shaven entered the convenience store and requested lottery tickets. At the time, there was one clerk behind the counter and another employee in the parking area. Once the cash drawer was opened, the male placed his hand inside his jacket, declared a robbery and stated he was armed with a handgun.

When the clerk hesitated, the male told him if he didn’t turn over the cash from the register, he would be shot. An undetermined amount of money was then given to the subject who fled out the door towards anunoccupied car parked alongside the building.

The counter clerk pursued the subject and alerted the other employee who was nearby. The two attempted to stop the subject and a fight ensued resulting in one employee being struck in the face.

The subject's vehicle then nearly collided with a passing motorist as it fled onto Foxon Road.

"The vehicle entered Foxon Road after the robbery did so recklessly and caused another vehicle heading toward East Haven to skid almost out of control to avoid a collision," said Lieut. David D'Ancicco. "The operator of that vehicle is asked to contact the North Branford Police Department as soon as possible."

The vehicle was last seen heading toward East Haven on Route 80. The vehicle is described as an older Honda Civic, possibly 4 door, with partial Connecticut licenseplate 989OZ_.

The clerk who was injured was transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.

Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the North Branford Police Detective Division at 203-484-2703.
