3 Questions for Mayor Candelora: March 7

Anthony Candelora discusses North Branford's future and compliments the many people involved in cleaning up the snow.

North Branford Patch: What is new in the Town of North Branford?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: We are discussing a long-term and short-term plan for our town. We have many opportunities for economic development and building our infacstrucure. The EDC [Economic Development Commission] is working hard and are coming to the Town Council with ideas and looking to plan the Route 80 corridor along with many other town properties that are available.

North Branford Patch: What is something residents should know?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: During the last few weeks, we were hit with a major snowstorm that crippled our state. Once again we pulled together and within a few days we had roads open and were able to provide services to residents in our town. Please remember the people who worked during this storm were not home plowing their own driveways or shoveling their roads – they were out taking care of us – Bonnie [Therrien], [Police] Chief Canelli, [Fire] Chief Seward, [Public Works Director] Fran [Merola] and our dispatchers to  name a few. Our police force, fire department and countless others worked to open the roads. Our many farmers and contractors came out with equipment to help. Thank you to all. We are working hard to get reimbursement from FEMA for the expense of this storm. Please, when you see some of these people, remember they put us first and I wish to thank them.

North Branford Patch: What is your favorite vacation destination?
Mayor Anthony Candelora: My favorite vacation spot would be St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. I love the beach it is a very special place to me. Joan and I were married there at a Catholic Church and our friends and family came. We spent about two weeks there and had a wonderful time. We just went back this year and the church is still there. We took the water taxi over and bought some mangos and ate lunch by the beautiful ocean.
